The students are able to identify unknown medicinal plants by microscopic / macroscopic means, and to determine their purity and content. For this purpose compendial methods are applied, therefore they are able to use them in a correct way and to evaluate the obtained results meaningfully.
In the setting of a “test laboratory” already known aspects of “microscopy” and “phytochemistry” are combined in a practically relevant context. This includes the microscopic identification of herbal drugs as well as the assessment of purity and content by diverse methodologies (e.g. titration, chromatography, and spectroscopy).
