SE Seminar for Doctoral Students: Arius: Heresy and Tradition

The students can present and discuss the teachings of Arius. They can recognise and analyse today’s relevance.
Arius (3./4. century) was a priest in Alexandria who founded Arianism with his teachings. He attempted to understand Jesus Christ theologically but paid less attention to his divinity. Arius stressed rather his humanity. Understanding his Christology and the debate of the Church at that time supports the present with its similar questions. The students will read the book ‘Arius: Heresy and Tradition’ in the course.
