Gain an understanding of approaches in (individual) pastoral care. To get to know, reflect and concretize important basic attitudes of accompaniment.

Just as every practical theology must take into account the concrete life and practice of people, the practiced pastoral care of Christians can only do justice to its mission if it immerses itself in the "humus" of people's life experiences and living conditions. Pastoral care, which offers the concrete person accompaniment in the experiences of his or her life and in the incomplete process of finding one's identity, wants to enable the person to believe in his or her life and to give it the dignity that every living being has from God. Accompanying pastoral care is confronted with the fragmentarity of the life of concrete people. And also the companion himself/herself comes into contact with his/her own fragmentariness. This is part of the framework in which accompaniment takes place. Pastoral accompaniment can be learned and must be reflected upon responsibly in an ongoing process.

The seminar process should help to develop a well-founded basic understanding of accompaniment. Various areas and situations of pastoral care will be addressed. In the course of the seminar, the participants will come into contact with pastoral counselors who accompany people in special life situations at specific locations. These encounters should help to experience the topic of accompaniment in an experiential and practice-oriented horizon and to reflect on and deepen it in the group or personally. A special focus will be placed in the seminar on questions such as: What are the guiding principles for those who work in accompaniment and what pastoral and spiritual self-image do they have? or spiritual self-understanding have they developed for themselves and their role? What competencies can I learn as a prospective pastoral counselor for my accompaniments or take with me into my own practice?

Exercises and impulse texts give clues for the concretization and practice of basic attitudes which are important in accompaniment.

  • Experience-based and theoretical appropriation of the seminar contents
  • Text impulses and exercises in the seminar group
  • Visit of persons active in the accompaniment
