603412 SE Special Childhoods and Biographies: Childhood, social inequality and gender
summer semester 2023 | Last update: 20.03.2023 | Place course on memo listStudents explain current approaches in child and childhood. They apply their theoretical knowledge about the intersection of age, gender and social inequality in the analysis of biographical processes. They assess how self-determination, participation and inclusion are enabled.
Current approaches in child and childhood research are discussed and the difference between child and childhood will be elaborated: Child research is interested in real children, their actions and experiences, their ways of understanding and their knowledge. Childhood research addresses the social status of childhood in the structure of generations and examines the social and historical concepts of childhood. Childhood is discussed as an element of generational orders of a society and children are considered in the context of social and historical childhoods. The focus of interest is on practices of differentiation between children and adults and their objectification. Unequal attributions to children in, for example, social interactions, social institutions, scientific discourses and pedagogies are problematised. So the course addresses Unequal Childhoods, in particular the connections between childhood, gender and social inequality.
