Exemplary examination of a central topic at the intersection of literature and media studies. Independent reflection and analysis of the roll of different media for the production, distribution and reception of literature based on profound knowledge.

The fact that our (as well as every past and probably every future) present is determined by its media is a foundation of media studies research, especially media culture studies. But media do not only shape our perception of the present, they can also create presents themselves, be it through presentist narration, immersive experience, real-time updating, live streams, etc. This can create forms of media realities, which in turn can impact extra-media realities. This course aims to trace the various relationships between media and the present from the perspective of media theory and history, and to take a closer look at them using selected examples from literature, film, games, etc.
