It is intended to provide an overview of the characteristics of one of the important European prose genres (The Picaresque) and also specific literary-historical contexts. You should learn to reflect on literary texts against the background of their epistemological conditions. 

This lecture deals with the genre picaresque novel. From its origins in Spain in the 16th century, it goes to the picaresque foothills in the 17th century to finally span the arc to contemporary literature, in which a boom of this genre can be recorded. On the one hand, it is about presenting the characteristics of the genre from a typological point of view; on the other hand, the literary-historical developments and their historical contexts of the 16th century until the 21st century play an important role.
