summer semester 2023 | Last update: 29.11.2022 | Place course on memo listUnderstanding of the generic structure of scientific texts and introduction to the most relevant statistics in Master theses. Insight into the connection between statistics concepts and text structure.
Basic principles of Descriptive Statistics, Experimental Design, Screening, Significance Testing as well as faults thereof; generic structure of of scientific text, necessary and sensible handling of citations and references.
Lecture sessions to introduce theoretical concepts; Discussions and short tasks in small groups (breakout rooms); Exercises for understanding of common and basic problems in scientific work; Reading exercises for understanding of generic text structure; homework tasks concerning statistical procedures and data display (online software tools, Excel).

English language skills appreciated for verbal comprehension of scientific information in papers.
Maximum of 30 students.
Participation is mandatory. A positive degree results from attendance, cooperation and the timely completion of 3 homework assignments (each approx. 30 min processing time). The deadline for handing in the homework can be extended if necessary. Maximum 30 participants, allocation of places according to the curriculum guideline (§6).
