Students are able to master simple design and planning tasks.They are  able to analyse a design task, to formulate an architectural programme, to create a spatial concept and to translate it into an architectural design of a high aesthetic level. You are able to develop, represent and present a project.

Title of the 1st design topic (group 1 and 0):

Guilderland: Dormitory on the Edge

"A guild is an association of artisans and merchants who oversee the practice of their craft/trade in a particular territory. "

Brief:

This semester, we will undertake the design of a student dormitory/guild campus, Guilderland. The campus will be located in one of the “leftover” spaces of Innsbruck, at a unique intersection of city border, industry, rail and road.

Guilderland will be designed collaboratively by group 0 and 1 of the E2 course where each team will be assigned a portion of the plot to develop. As part of this “real-life” exercise, students will need to take their neighbouring projects into account while managing the building’s in-between spaces and connections. To enhance the dormitory's character and identity, each team will incorporate a creative, productive, or recreational element into the building's design as the core for the individual guilds. The invented guilds should have the potential to create interactions between shared and private -, inside and outside spaces, producing an interface between the dormitory and the city. 

As a result we will aim to give Guilderland a unique story and identity to foster communities within the dorm while contributing to the life of the city.

Title of the 2nd design topic (group 2):

Karmelitergasse / Urban space for all!

Brief:

We dedicate ourselves to the design of public urban spaces and get the opportunity to develop a design that will be translated into reality. In the Karmelitergasse in the center of Innsbruck we will develop a socially and ecologically sustainable open space concept in cooperation with the city. We will develop innovative design solutions and confront important issues of contemporary urban planning - from urban heat, land sealing and biodiversity to inclusion in public spaces. The design will be very practice-based and in constant exchange with the architects, the clients, the city and experts from different disciplines.
