Familiarity with important debates in epistemology; the ability to discuss and write competently about them.

With the proliferation of digital media, we are experiencing an explosion in the amount of information available to us. But paradoxically, less and less of this information amounts to knowledge. How does knowledge differ from mere apparent knowledge, and what is knowledge anyway? In a world of so-called fake news, can other people be a source of knowledge at all? As cognitively limited human beings, are we capable of obtaining knowledge in any form, or are we stuck with skepticism? We will delve into these and other fundamental questions of epistemology.

Lectures, class discussion, short essays.

Essays.

Will be announced; some texts will likely be in English.
