The objective is to gain knowledge about important historical developments of and interrelations between North American and Eastern European Cinema and, in general, about film aesthetics and film history.

Drawing on select themes, genres, films, and directors, this lecture course sets out to explore the diverse interconnections between North American and Eastern European cinema from the early 20^th century to the present. In a series of filmic pairings, we will address the linguistic and cultural diversity of Eastern European and North American cinema along with transnational impulses and dimensions of cinema.

The course will not be held as "VU" but - together with the Departement of American Studies - as "VO".
