In the oral presentation, students learn to play freely in the field of 'translation', 'interpretation' and 'improvisation'. They will be able to apply a broad spectrum of techniques for the independent interpretation and improvisation of texts.

This workshop assumes that every reading of literature aloud is a translation process, namely the translation of the written text into a specific situation. This connection between the original text and the oral translation will be explored in as many variations as possible. In all these exercises, which are oriented towards artistic practice, terms such as 'translation', 'interpretation' and 'improvisation' will be reflected upon and examined more closely. Furthermore, we will work out how the results of the oral performance methods practiced in the workshop can be used for written translation processes.

Different ways of reading literature aloud will be explored, whether as a reading of a poem or other literary text or as an improvisation of content or sound based on the written text. Various techniques of vocal and tonal expression when speaking as well as phonetic improvisation will be used and combined with each other.

At the end of the workshop, the participants will present their own oral contribution in a joint internal final reading, with their own written description and reflection on this contribution. The examination performance will be assessed as 'passed' or 'failed'.

Texts in German, French, Italian and other languages, which will be provided in a reader in advance of the course, as well as texts suggested by the students, will serve as the basis for the translational and poetic translations. These will be made available during the course.
