Students understand the basic mechanisms of toxicological and exotoxicological interactions upon stress impact caused by environmental contaminants; they comprehend the significance of bioindicators and biomarkers in toxicology and ecotoxicology, and know how to apply them and how to interprete the respective results.

Stress effects in animals caused by environmental contaminants and toxicants. Basic concepts of biological indication of toxicant accumulation. Molecular, biochemical, cellular and physiological alterations of responsive parameters caused by toxicant exposure and biomarker application.

Aquatic part (Prof. Seppälä) is taught in English.
