winter semester 2024/2025 | Last update: 28.05.2024 | Place course on memo listStudents will comprehend and be able to master the fundamentals of European Union Law. Moreover, they will have a deeper understanding as regards selected issues and topics related to economic law
Subject of this course shall be selected issues related to economic law particularly being of relevance as regards institutional European Union Law as well as relevant topics of European Union Economic Law in general. That is, inter alia,
• The Conference on the Future of Europe: conclusions and legal question as regards the planned reform of the EU
• Fundamental rights protection within the EU: EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, accession to the European Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (ECHR) as well as the binding nature of the EU fundamental rights upon EU Member States
• Union citizenship: general freedom of movement of EU citizens as the 5th EU fundamental freedom
• EU Internal Market: A deeper examination of the EU fundamental freedoms
• Harmonisation of the law: fundamentals, scope and „solo runs“ of the Member States
• The Covid-19 pandemic and war in Ukraine: Reconstruction measures of the EU and measures against price increase
• EU and sustainability: competences, possibilities for action and the first ever measures of the Union
Presentation of the content by means of current and ongoing, real cases; deepening and revision of the knowledge shall be done by means of short presentations and contributions of the students
Written or oral exam covering the topics and issues that were subject during the course at the end of the semester; there will be one case study to be conducted as well as a couple of theoretical questions to be answered. Examination procedure (written or oral) will be agreed upon with the students in the first unit
