Students are familiar with the mechanisms of the book market, they know the history and profile of the Leipzig Book Fair, have taken part in the attractive programme of events and are informed about current literary publications (especially from Central and Eastern Europe).

The course is divided into a preparatory part, which takes place in the winter semester 24/25, and the excursion to the book fair itself in the early summer semester (27-30 March 2025) with a one-off follow-up.
In the winter semester, we deal with the mechanisms of the book market in general and the publishing industry in particular; we read and discuss texts from contemporary literature from Eastern, Central Eastern and South Eastern Europe and organise the excursion.
At the Leipzig Book Fair, we visit selected publishing stands and make contact with authors from Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, as well as with their publishers and translators. We take part in readings and book presentations as well as other cultural events for which the Leipzig Fair is famous.
For the successful completion of the VU, participation in the first session (7.11.; 15:30) is obligatory, as the trip to Leipzig and the accomodation must be organised. The number of participants is limited to 10. Places will be allocated in the order of registration for the course; there will be a waiting list.
