Students...

  • understand how assessment scales are created and can develop assessment sclaes for use in the classroom. 
  • know different digital tools of testing foreign language competencies and can also actively implement one of these tools.
  • are able to distinguish between different research methods and their typical areas of application in language testing research.
  • are able to create questions for an interview with a teacher; they can successfully conduct such an interview as well as interpret the results on several levels.

Deepening understanding of the principles, basics and theories of testing and assessment of foreign languages; methods for testing and assessing language abilities and linguistic competences in foreign language teaching; task analysis and item moderation; insights into statistical analyses for item- and test modification; insights into typical research questions and methods.

Successful completion of Compulsory Module 2 Bachelor's Programme Secondary School Teacher Training (General Education) Subject: English, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

This course is part of Compulsory Module 3 (“Evaluation of Modern Language Competences”) Bachelor's Programme Secondary School Teacher Training (General Education) Subject: English, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish;

it is exclusively aimed at students of two foreign languages and is to be used as a compensation for the "Introduction to Testing and Assessing in Teaching Foreign Languages" ("Einführung in das Testen und Bewerten im Fremdsprachenunterricht")

The course can be attended already in the same semester, but it is highly recommended to attend the course after completing the Introduction to Testing and at least one language-specific workshop.

The admission to the course follows the conditions of admission (for information please consult the IMoF website: http://www.uibk.ac.at/imof/lehre.html).
