222011 VO Foundations of Moral Theology
summer semester 2025 | Last update: 24.10.2024 | Place course on memo listKnowledge of basic concepts of normative ethics, argumentative skills, knowledge of basic moral themes of Christian anthropology.
This series of lectures deals with the most basic questions of theological ethics. Its topics include various models of normative ethics, the question of God and its significance for theological ethics, topics of action theory, biblical ethics (including the reflection on the words and deeds of Jesus Christ), and central topics of Christian anthropology (conscience, vocation, culpability, the divine virtues). Taken together, the lectures will elaborate elementary guidelines for Christian action in a plural society.
The exercise "UE Klassische Texte der christlichen Ethik" (LV 222411) offers the possibility to deepen the topics of the lecture by reading and discussing central texts. Participation in the exercise is not obligatory, but recommended.

A list of recommended literature will be given in the first lecture. E. Schockenhoff’s „Grundlegung der Ethik“ (²2014) is one of the books on this list.
