Identify and master the special challenges posed to civil law in the digital age
Cases posing peculiar problems due to digital elements will be analyzed from the perspective of civil law, with a special focus on the law of contracts, torts, and property. In addition, conflicts of laws and singular aspects of family law and inheritance will also be addressed. Topics include inter alia the special challenges of e-commerce (from the perspective of all participants), blockchain, data as assets, as well as damage to and caused by data.
In-class lectures will be combined with online elements and self-study tasks such as reading assignments and links to external content such as videos. Active participation (including engagement in teamwork) and preparation is indispensable. Parts of the assigned materials are in English.
Will be announced in class, but may at least include writing a short research paper (such as a case study).
