Module 1: Introduction I: European Ethnology as Cultural Studies (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: The students have an insight to history of science and the specificity of the discipline; they have advanced theoretical and methodological knowledge and work with key concepts of the discipline.
Module 2: Introduction II: Self-Study Reading Course (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 1 h)

Learning Outcome: The students are able to deal with subject-specific scientific texts autonomously and critically, also taking into account gender-related issues and theories as well as foreign language literature. They work in and with different digital learning environments.
Module 3: Perspectives I: Europeanisation and Globalisation (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: The students are provided with interdisciplinary perspectives and specialised factual knowledge of current cultural and social development. The have acquired new approaches for analysis.
Module 4: Approaches I: Cultural Dynamics and Pluralisation (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: The students are provided with advanced knowledge in current fields of research of the discipline in terms of dislimitation of cultural practices. They have practiced empirical techniques based on concrete case studies and are able to transfer the skills acquired to practical fields of European Cultural Anthropology such as tourism or migration.
Module 5: Approaches II: Cultural Demarcations and Differentiations (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: The students are provided with advanced knowledge in current fields of research of the discipline in terms of establishment and differentiation of cultural borders in order to form popular identity concepts. They have practiced empirical techniques based on concrete case studies and are able to transfer the skills acquired to practical fields of European Cultural Anthropology.
Module 6: Perspectives II: Modernity and Modernisation (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: The students reflect on and operate with the key concepts of Cultural Science, i.e. Modernity and Modernisation, competently taking into account their significance for society as a whole as well as for European Cultural Anthropology in particular. They apply their analytic potential to fields of research of the discipline and reflect on their fundamentals and trends.
Module 7: Approaches III: Culture and Historicity (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: The students are provided with a consolidated insight to the historical perspectives of European Cultural Anthropology. The have specialised knowledge of the historical dimensions of present phenomena and are able to contextualise and analyse processes of change.
Module 8: Approaches IV: Memory, Recollection and Narration (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: The students have comprehensive understanding of current handling of the past; they have consolidated subject-specific knowledge in the fields of narrative research, discourse analysis and biography research. The concepts of memory (storage), construction of the past (recollection) and narration (creation of meaning) can be thoroughly pervaded analytically and categorised theoretically.
Module 9: Fundamentals of Media Studies (5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Knowledge of the basic concepts of media studies; overview of main issues, approaches and results of media research; examples of the use of media analysis methods.
Module 10: Cultural Studies and Ethnological Writing (7.5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)

Learning Outcome: The students develop their own innovative, research-driving questions. They give reasons for their own research concepts, contents and conclusions and defend them. They elaborate work plans and transfer the skills acquired in this module to new research projects critically.
Module 11: Excursions: European Ethnology (10 ECTS-Credits, 3 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: The students know selected fields of practice and research of the discipline and have consolidated their skills for differentiated perception and self-reflexive contemplation as well as analysis of cultural phenomena.
Module 12: Master Thesis Defense (2.5 ECTS-Credits)

Prerequisites for registration: positive completion of all other compulsory and elective modules as well as the Master thesis
Learning Outcome: Examination of the Master thesis in the overall context of the Master programme in European Ethnology; with special focus on theoretical comprehension, methodical issues, communication of findings of the Master thesis and presentation skills.
