Learning Outcome:

The students acquire the competence to apply methods of social sciences in concrete case studies. - The introductory seminar course (PS) “Applied Methods of Social Sciences” serves, in accordance with the seminar on the same topic, to train and apply empirical methods. By means of a practical case students handle on their own all phases of a research process: formulation of the research question, survey and analysis of data, elaboration of a research report (Curriculum, §5).

Methods:

Students elaborate a research question, they conduct an interview and a group respectively an online discussion. Students create a qualitative survey. With the help of case studies from the socioligical literature the applied methods are discussed.

Assessment:

Report of the results, the survey methods and of the methods applied .
