Understanding of the processes within the Planetary Boundary Layer and its role  in the coupling between the Earth’s suface and the atmosphere, with a focus on the relevant transport processes that are responsible for this coupling. Knowledge about typical states of the PBL. Knowledge of theoretical and practical approaches with which the flow in the PBL can be described and modelled.

Concept of turbulence and turbulent flows, Surface energy balance, Atmospheric boundary layer types and evolution, TKE and dynamic stability, Logarithmic wind profile and similarity theory, Parametrizations of turbulent processes, Applications
