Students acquire basic knowledge of the funktioning, the strucutre and the actors of international relations.

This lecture introduces students to the core concepts of strategic and security studies. It will debate core state's security strategies of coercion and control (coercive diplomacy, compellence, deterrence, engagement, pre-emption, pre-vention) and focus on political and military security. The class will then debate the core theories of International Relations: Realism, Structural Realism, Neoclassical Realism, Liberalism and Neoliberalism, Institutionalism. Finally, this lecture will introduce students to core stipulations of International Law on managing inter-state and intra-state conflicts.

Lecture, assessment is based on a single examination at the end of the course.
