The goal of the course is that the students understand modern languages in general, an Italian in particular, as the result of evolutions at different levels. Therefore we will have to deal with the external as well as with the internal history of Italian.

First we will have a look at the external history of Italian, then at the internal history, e.g. we will deal with the linguistic evolutions in the fields of syntax, morphology, semantics, phonetics and phonology.
