800727 SE Succeed in Your Studies and in Your Job: How to Play to Your Strengths
winter semester 2016/2017 | Last update: 28.11.2016 | Place course on memo listBy the end of this course, students will Know their strengths and skills and also how to present them. They will also know how to use and play to their strengths and skills in various job, university, and everyday situations. Finally, students will learn how to strengthen their strengths.
In our school and university system, we don't learn to be proud of our strengths and skills but we learn to be average instead of being outstanding. We are often taught skills that are said to be achievable, without taking our personality and our individual strengths into considerations, let alone developing these. This course allows for each single participant to find and concentrate on his/her individual strengths and skills. During this course the students get to know their skills and strengths, how to use these and to practice them - whether it be in team situation or in single presentations. A central element of this course is recognizing and appreciating one's own strengths and skills and at the same time those of other course participants.
Small group and team activites, exercises with self- and third-party assessment, questionnaires and dialogues, multi-media mini-presentations (which will sometimes be filmed). The course instructor uses, teaches and learns predominantly with new media and e-learning tools.
No exam. Active participation in class. Several short written activities . An indivual strengths profile needs to be handed in (format is open). Regular participation mandatory.
