Knowledge of the historical context and of the main statements of the Council texts. Ability to recognise the consequences and limitations of the Council through reflections from a catholic perspective.

The Holy and Great Synod of the Orthodox Church convened, after 50 years of preparation, in Crete from 18th to 26th of June 2016. Though all 14 autocephalous (independent) Orthodox Churches signed the binding commitment to participate in the Council, four of them did not come. What are the consequences? Is the Synod a valid Pan-Orthodox Council? How about unity within the Orthodox Church? Is there anything new in the passed texts of the Council? How does the Council see Ecumenism? These and other questions we will address in the seminar.
