Critical examination of historical sites, objects and (re-) presentations of history in the broader context of German memory culture; Competence to explain historical phenomena on site.
Memory of Nazi time / Holocaust and GDR in the broader context of German history, reflection on different forms of public representation of history (monuments / memorials, museums, etc., conversion of historic buildings).
Program items: Holocaust Memorial with information center, memorials in Tiergarten, topography of terror, Berlin Story Bunker at Anhalter Bahnhof, House of Wannsee Conference, German Historical Museum, Jewish Museum, German Bundestag, former GDR State Council building, Federal Ministry of Finance, documentation Berlin Wall, Museum in the Kulturbrauerei, GDR Museum...
Guided tour and/or lecture from the field trip leaders; provision of information material and oral presentations by the students; discussion on site.
Permanent participation, oral presentation with paper.
Will be discussed in the first lesson.
The excursion will last five full days (plus arrival and departure) and will take place from Mon., 10 to Sun., 16.9.2018. Independent arrival and departure. The visit of the homonymous UE to the historical excursion is obligatory.
