645308 Historical Excursion: Economic, Social and Environmental History of Iceland
summer semester 2018 | Last update: 04.06.2018 | Place course on memo listStudents are familiar with Iceland´s economic, social and environmental history. They can profitably combine historical knowledge with current site conditions.
During the excursion, we will study and discuss selected aspects of Iceland´s economic, social and environmental history at historic sites in Reykjavík and the surrounding area. Focal points are the social, economic and political life in a peripheral area, the transition to renewable energies, research on Icelandic population, German-speaking immigration and the societal handling of natural phenomena such as geysers, waterfalls and volcanoes.
Guided tours in the field, presentations of the course instructors as well as of the students. The latter will be prepared in the accompanying course (645309).

The excursion will start and end in Reykjavík, June 23 (Saturday evening) until June 28 (Thursday morning).
