Extended understanding the historical developments and the socio-cultural conditions of inner-familial gender and generational relationships as well as the associated normative demands; Developing (theological) ethical criteria for a life-friendly design of intra-family relationships under present conditions.

Generational and gender relations are subject to different norms according to cultural, historical and religious contexts. Concepts of family, childhood, motherhood and fatherhood determine to a great extent the inner-family relationships and are at the same time undergoing change. The course asks questions such as: What challenges does a highly complex society place on intergenerational relationships? What do parents owe their children? Which responsibilities do children have towards their parents? Are there fraternal obligations? Which opportunities offer different family forms? Which ethical criteria support quality family life with different genders and generations? On the basis of these and other questions, criteria are developed for a family ethic in the plural society.
