summer semester 2020 | Last update: 20.11.2020 | Place course on memo list§5(1)4.b. VO Gender Studies in a political science and socialogical perspective (2 / 5)
Students acquire the ability to classify and explain the development of political thinking in the course of the centuries. They know how to present different definitions of rule and describe different theories of state as well as different theories of democracy.
Moreover, they know how to state historical genesis and cultural variability of social order. They are able to critically reflect gender coding in western intellectual and cultural history as well as in (social)scientific discourses of modern age and to autonomously evaluate political strategies of gender politics on a national, European and international level.
The lecture gives an overview of approches and problems of gender studies in political science. Fundamental concepts should be clearified and defined as well as historical and recent political streams and their connection to theoretical approches. The segregation of the private and the public sphere as well as the gendered assignment of the spheres is fundamental for understanding the political scientific feminist critique.
Furthermore important sub areas of political science as political theorie, theory on demoracy, theory of the state, the developement of capitalism or the political system are discussed from a feminist point of view. Finnaly recent problems of the transformation of society, politics and gender relations should be debated.
