The students should be trusted with different interpretations of important Qur'an passages. They should become acquainted with different interpretation methods. They should thereby be able to create from these different approaches a space of interpretation for dealing with contemporary challenges of the Muslim community in general and especially in Europe.

Koran passages selected through application examples are intended to illustrate various approaches. Standard works of the Qur'anic exegesis such as "Ǧāmi al-bayān'an ta'wīl āy al-qur'ān" of at-Tabari, "al-kaššāf'an ḥaqā'iqi 't-tanzīl" of az-Zamaḫšarī or "Mafātīḥ al-ġaib" of Faḫr ad-Dīn ar Rāzī are used for this purpose.

Finally, the seminar compares and compares the main foundations of the Qur'an exegesis (usul at-Tafsir) with the works of al-Ġazzālī, Ibn Rušds, and Ibn Taimīyas. In addition, contemporary interpretations of what are considered to be difficult Koran passages are presented.
