Students know the most important principles of Islam and its historical development. Students are able to recognize the significance of core theological statements for coexistence and to conduct a dialogue.

The course offers an overview of the history and theology of Islam in its plurality. It will cover selected topics such as the fundamentals of the faith, the "Five Pillars", the sources (Qur'an and Sunna), eminent personalities and currents. Present debates about Islam in the European context are also a focus.
