- Students are aware of ethical issues related to digitalization and issues in research in data science and related fields
- Students know different positions and arguments in these ethical issues
- Students know strategies to solve these issues
The lecture consists of three parts: 1) philosophy of ethics in science and technology, 2) ethical aspects of research for data science, and 3) ethical aspects of technological applications in data science.
In the first part, an introduction to ethical reasoning and its application in different research disciplines will be given. In the second part, students will explore known ethical topics during research in data science, such as democratization processes like open data and open access. And in the third part, we will take a deep look into ethical consequences of technological applications, e.g. bias in search engines and recommender systems or working with artificial intelligence and ways to mitigate such ethical issues.
