602018 SE Philosophy of Technology and Media
winter semester 2023/2024 | Last update: 16.10.2023 | Place course on memo listKnowledge of significant positions, arguments and discourses in the philosophy of technology and media; understanding of Bernard Stiegler's thinking at the intersection of philosophical critique of technology and media; discussion of current phenomena such as augmented reality, AI, control software, etc.
Bernard Stiegler's thinking starts at several intersections of philosophical critique of technology and media and - starting from A Logic of Concern (2008) - deals with the complex phenomenon of media-technology, not least with regard to the danger of an increasing paralysis of our human attention (by newer forms of the so-called culture industry). This seminar will discuss significant positions, arguments, and discourses in the philosophy of technology and media by, on the one hand, placing Stiegler's writing Technology and Time (1994/1996) at the center of common reading and reflection. On the other hand, selected other texts of Stiegler will be consulted as well as other basic texts of the philosophy of technology and media (e.g. Heidegger, Anders, Flusser).

The assessment criteria are the following: Active participation in the SE; structure, coherence and plausibility of the argumentation, level of reflection, references and contexts, linguistic style, formalities (layout etc.).
