622010 PS Contemporary History: Nazism and family history
winter semester 2023/2024 | Last update: 30.04.2024 | Place course on memo listAcquisition of basic skills for dealing with historic sources and presentations of Contemporary History as well as skills in presenting the newly acquired knowledge orally as well as in writing. Acquisition of basic knowledge and application of relevant methods aiding scientific research.
In the proseminar we approach the history of National Socialism/Fascism, World War II and the Holocaust by means of (our own) family traditions. The basic question is what material and immaterial heritage the National Socialist era has left behind in the family or private context and how these diverse and contradictory traditions can be used to develop questions about different aspects of Nazi history and related phenomena and to investigate them.
Individual acquirement of a historical survey; oral presentations and handouts, research paper, discussion; internet search, exercises.
Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, oral presentation, written paper (10-15 pp.)
Positive assessment of compulsory module 1. The respective proof ought to be produced until the end of October 2023.
