Students
- know important strands of theory in gender studies (e.g. Simone de Beauvoir, Judith Butler, R.W. Connell).
- are familiar with concepts such as sex/gender, heterosexual matrix, norm, performance, interability, hegemonic masculinity etc. and can apply them analytically (to text and film examples)
- can read gender-theoretical texts in the original and develop questions from them
At the beginning you will be introduced to the basics of Gender Studies especially by reading and discussing important theoretical texts (e.g. Simone de Beauvoir, Judith Butler; R.W. Conell).
During the following sessions we will apply the theoretical knowledge on literary texts and films.
Text readings, discussions, presentations, analyses of film clips and texts
Regular participation, discussions, text readings, maybe an oral presentation, written essay
A detailed bibliography will be at your disposal at the beginning of the semester.
None; however, previous theoretical knowledge of Cultural Studies is welcome.
