645311 VO Global History: Global aspects of sport and leisure
winter semester 2023/2024 | Last update: 10.01.2024 | Place course on memo listExpansion of the traditional focus, insights into the world-wide complexity of historic developments.
Globalization has dominated historical discourse for some time, even if it has recently come under criticism (deglobalization). While it was initially mainly related to the economic area and concerned the global interdependence of trade and capital relations, it has also gained immense importance in the social sciences in recent decades. This goes hand in hand with the complex dimensions of globalization. Today, this includes economic, political, ecological, social and cultural dimensions. Transnational corporations generate profits worldwide, the number of multilateral agreements and international organizations in international politics is constantly increasing and ecological factors such as climate change are a global phenomenon. Overall, territorial borders are becoming less and less important, and the world is also growing ever closer together on a social and cultural level, due to modern transport and passenger traffic as well as access to mass media such as television and the Internet.
Phenomena of globalization are examined and questioned using the example of leisure and sport.
Lectures with a possibility to pose questions and discussions; discussion of certain readings.
A written exam at the end of the semester, maybe administered online.
A list of books and articles will be made available to the students at the beginning of the lecture. The most important literature is made available online on OLAT or in the semester reserve (Semesterapparat on ULBT).
