202114 VU Interdisciplinary Learning: What is science (including humanities and social sciences) about?
summer semester 2022 | Last update: 14.12.2021 | Place course on memo listThe ability to engage with the methods of various disciplines, and to think and write critically about them.
The history of science involves a branching out into increasingly specific disciplines. This level of detail has provided deep insights. But it risks losing sight of reality as a whole – a major problem given the challenges of our time, which are too complex to be managed or even grasped by isolated disciplines. As preparation for our complex world, it is essential to understand the basic methods and questions of various disciplines. Even more important is developing the cognitive capacity to flexibly and creatively navigate different scientific understandings of the world to begin with.
