622017 UE Research Laboratory: Introduction to data management

There are many tools that can be used by the humanities to support research. However, it is an enormous advantage if the data is available in a form that is suitable for machine processing. This course aims to give humanities scholars an introduction to basic knowledge of database management systems and the processing of data from these systems in order to be able to store and process the data in a structured way. Apart from relational database management systems and the Python environment, no other tools are covered.
Using database systems (SQL), querying data, processing data (using Python as an example).
Lecture by course instructor, discussions and exercises during the lesson, independent study between the units, homework (incl. presentation)
Continuous active participation, reading, homework, final exam
Will be announced in the course.
Prerequisite is your own laptop with administrator rights (installation of programs). Basic knowledge of programming is an advantage.
