Students will acquire an insight into the approach of historical-criticial exegesis and an understanding of the questions regarding the historical background of the texts of the New Testament and the methods used to answer such questions. Students will also develop the skills necessary to approach these questions by themselves.

The contexts of the 27 books of the New Testament (author, addressees, place and time of composition) and the (oral and written) history of their becoming literature are also part of the central themes of the Introduction to the New Testament as well as the question of the literary character, specific term shape and theological intention and the elucidation of the text- and passing-on-history up to the genesis of the canon. The lecture will address this wide range of topics and will elaborate on the most important writings of the New Testament.
